Business safes & cash control systems
There are many unique requirements for safes in the business environment. Not only do you need to secure your funds, you also need to provide limited access to money for employees without exposing yourself to potential internal theft. Choosing the correct safe can enhance your business function as well as save you money.
Cash controllers are designed to limit your exposure to internal theft. They allow your employees to "drop" rolls of coins and small bills, this helps manage the registers on the front end of your business. These are very popular in convenience store and usually go under the counter. They also have a built in time delay system to limit how much can be "dropped" if you were getting robbed.
Drop safes are usually located in the office or the back end of your store and provides a top box that lets employees thin out the cash drawers by making envelope drops into a secured safe without having access to the safe. The bottom box is usually for the cash on hand for a manager to build drawers for the registers and is locked by either a combination lock, or if you want accountability, a two key system similar to a safe deposit box, requiring two people to have access to the safe.
Fire files are an area that most businesses miss when planning for the worst. If a fire were to happen in your business, imagine how hard it would be to re-create those important files and invoices. Not all of your file cabinets need to be fire proof but certainly a percentage of them should be.
How you lock up your valuables is almost as important as what you secure them in.
Electronic locks can add enhancements to your existing safes as well as add options like audit trails, time delay, accountability and time schedules to your safe.
Audit trails provide a time stamped history of when a safe was opened. If you set up your system so that each employee has a different combination or credential to open the safe you will know who opened the safe and when. This can be a powerful tool when trying to limit your exposure to internal theft.
Time delay will also limit your exposure, but to the person trying to rob you. They don't want to stand there waiting for the safe to time out for 5 minutes to be able to grab your daily cash.
Accountability is key for some businesses, access to the safe requires two people ( a manager & a cashier for example) to be present to get the safe open. Each has one half of the "handshake" required to open the door.
Time schedules because all of your employees don't need access to the safe 24 hours a day 7 days a week. By creating schedules for when a combination works, you also limit your exposure for theft. You can generally set these by day of the week and by a time slot during the day.
Home Safes provide a greater level of security and peace of mind. Safes fall into three main categories: Burglary, Fire & Media.
They do have some multiple function safes, but be aware of what you
have to make sure you are getting the protection you need for your
important documents and valuables.
Burglary Safes provide the best protection from physical
attack. There are many levels of security available in this type of
safe. All Safes are not created equal. Discuss your needs with a
professional to help guide you to the correct size and security level
safe for your needs. Once you have an idea of what size you need,
generally you should get one that is bigger than you need. Once you
have it you'll find that you have more things you want to put in it for
protection and you may also want room inside it for a small fire box to
protect important documents. This type of safe should be anchored to
the floor. Gun safes fall into this category.
Fire Safes provide protection from fire & high heat
for paperwork & important document like social security cards,
birth & marriage certificates, cash, checks, titles, bonds &
wills. These tend to be smaller and actually should be put inside a
Burglary safe for better protection. Many fire safes are designed to
keep out high heat and not people with pry bars.
Media Safes are designed to keep the inside temperature
even lower than a fire safe during a fire. As the name implies, it
protects media items that you would want to protect such as tapes,
discs, credit cards, computer back up discs and things that would
actually melt inside a fire safe.
